Ideas that Remain is an artistic action by the architect and draftsman Sergei Tchoban in which he reinterprets in situ the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in a drawing in progress over three days (October 17, 18, and 19) that reveals with ink on a large roll of paper the references of the life and work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe from a contemporary perspective.
As the action progresses, the paper slowly fills with lively scenes — some familiar, others more enigmatic. The rhythm of his stroke, agile and calm, invites the public to follow the emerging story. As if a curtain were rising, the buildings take shape, freed from rigid patterns, conveying the feeling that the drawing could continue indefinitely.
On Saturday, 18th October, the visitors are invited to see the progress of the drawing and to participate in the conversation “Drawing Architecture Urban Layers – the subject of inquiry and preservation,” in which Sergei Tchoban and Esenija Bannan, curator of this art intervention, engaged in a conversation about their way of understanding drawing as a tool not only to document but also to explore, interpret and reveal the multiple layers of the contemporary city and project possible futures for cities.
On Monday the 20th, the fourth and final day of this drawing performance, the audience will be able to see the large drawing complete.
